Friday December 7
December 7th is my birthday. (No snide remarks about Pearl Harbor Day please).
I haven’t spent it at the beach in years and years and so I planned to be at the ocean front this year for my birthday. I lived for several years in a house one block from the ocean on the North End of Virginia Beach and some of my fondest life memories are having the water so close all the time and the sunrise over it so available.
I’m up and out to start a day by the water on my birthday with the sunrise. But the fog has rolled in BIG TIME. No sunrise today. Here’s how it looked at sunrise.
No sun all day in fact.
What to do? What would I like to do on my birthday in foggy drizzly weather?
I honestly can’t think of a thing. I’m shocked that the weather has deserted me. Never mind how lucky we have been with the weather the entire time at Hunting Island. I check the forecast and it looks like pay back time. Fog, drizzle, rain for days. Well they aren’t always right.
So I decide I’ll just use this ugly weather day to take care of some errands I need to run so that when it is beautiful tomorrow they’ll all be taken care of.
And that’s what I do – holiday shopping. Among my very LEAST favorite things to do is shopping, even grocery shopping. But I have gifts I must get in the mail so………
This doesn’t seem like a camera worthy event so I leave mine at home but when I’m in a store looking for a sweater for my father and walk by these oh so classy 3” shiny silver lame shoes with gold lame heels, well out comes the phone. I’m sorry they don’t show off to best advantage in this picture. They were really something and compliment my Hunting Island birthday hoodie quite well don’tchathink?? They are SO me!
Well that brings a bit of sunshine into the afternoon but the weather does not let up all day. Low 61, high 69 and fog, drizzle, rain. STILL that doesn’t mean I don’t get a birthday cake and cards and presents.
Well actually, a half sized cake. Isn’t it cute.
In the evening it’s still drizzling we take a walk down main street anyway to see the lights. Someone has moved in from Illinois and wins the most decorated award.
The drizzle picks up so it is time to pick up the pace for home.
Makes this picture look like snow though doesn’t it? However the temperature is a lovely 61 degrees as the drizzle continues.
Saturday December 8
Another foggy sunrise this morning.
Again, we’re Socked in fog. I go out running which isn’t much different with or without the fog since I can clearly see 3 feet ahead of me and that’s all that is necessary.
BUT the sun is finally able to burn it off by early afternoon and we take advantage of the time to get a few things done.
One of my birthday presents was 6 herbs and larger pots and potting soil to repot them with. The latter two were things I picked out on my shopping day yesterday. So I’m having great fun this afternoon being a gardener. I’ve had years and years of practice with a huge garden at the farm so this is like play. My garden is one of the only things I miss being on the road and I am looking forward to fresh herbs in all our vegan dishes without having to buy them in little packets in the produce department. Thanks to Nancy Mills for the inspiration.
I’m very happy with the way they turn out and hope they’ll be happy in their new homes on the Winnona’s dash.
David goes to work setting up his holiday lights so Winnona won’t feel left in the dark here on main street.
He also ups the air in our bicycle tires. They seem to lose air whether we ride them or not. We love our portable compressor.
We finish these things and just about the time we decide to go for a stroll on the beach ….whoooosh…. back comes the fog. No sunset tonight.
It rolls in quickly and brings that mist which makes everything damp. Within 15 minutes, at 4:00 in the afternoon, this is the scene looking up Main Street
Predictions are for more rain tonight. Although so far, rain has meant drizzle not rain rain. Guess we’ll wait and see what “partly cloudy and warm” means for tomorrow. Whatever it is, we’ll be here to enjoy it.
We've had some pretty heavy fog here in the mornings for the last five days. It sure beats snow though. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday, fog and all. We are having thunderstorms in the Tampa area. Love your herb garden. I have a smaller one in one pot and use it almost everyday. Dried herbs are no substitute for the real thing.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the shoes! I did the same thing when shopping with my mama & sisters the day after Thanksgiving. How do folks walk in those things??? LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, I really want to see you WALK in those shoes...dare ya;o)) Had to replace them all;o((
ReplyDeleteThe herbs look fantastic. I take mine outside once in a while just to really let them get some Vitamin D. Just be sure not to put them on the ground...fire ants took up lodging in mine when I did that;o))
Bike tires just lose air over time, has nothing to do with whether you ride them or not. However, having the proper inflation when you ride makes the world of difference!!!
Happy Belated Birthday! Love the shoes, so you. Of course my legs would cramp up terrible with those huge heals, I used to be able to wear. Hoping the fog lifts for you soon.
ReplyDeleteSure, tell us it's your birthday AFTER the day! Well as you can see that doesn't stop us from wishing you the very best!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...elsewhere! Nice looking herbs for your birthday. You can enjoy them year round that way.

Happy Belated Birthday! Sorry it was a foggy one though. Those silver high heels were definitely you, now lets see you jog in them, lol.

OK, I liked Klbexplores message so much, I wanted to see if I could just copy and paste it and I can. Cool. Have a great birthday week.
Love the herb pots! That would make a garden worth toting around :)
ReplyDeleteWell happy birthday a few days late! Today is the first day in almost a week that we have been treated with a glimpse of Mr. Sun. All during that time it has been foggy, cloudy, drizzly, chilly and just downright Scottish around here. Boy am I glad the front came through last night to dry things out!
ReplyDeleteI thought the birthday sunrise picture was pretty - look at those waves coming in - I'd love to be there by the water in 60s weather...not bad, not bad. Amazing shoes! What a hoot :) The herbs look great and I'm sure love the dashboard - they've got a good view those lucky traveling herbs. So sorry I missed that yummy, yummy cake!
ReplyDeleteIf your herbs are anything like our cats, the dash will be their favorite place.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday!
Happy belated birthday!
ReplyDeleteYou really rock in those 3" heels! For people like us, they could actually be considered quite practical. Just slip those on whenever you need a few more inches of height instead of dragging a step stool around. :-)
Happy 29th Birthday (again). Nice to see you treated yourself to those beautiful silver lame high heeled shoes. They looked really nice on you.
ReplyDeleteHow'd they work out for your morning run? ;c)
So, you're saying that you don't want to hear "a day that will live in infamy." Got it. Mum's the word, Pearl.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a belated Happy Birthday in Karen's style.

Happy Birthday... late! Like the hoodie you got ... it will forever remind you of where you were on this happy birthday. David is looking good stringing those lites... glad he is "keeping up with the Joneses" in that category. Really can't let the holiday season get by without some lights. Ours are burning brightly on the tree and in many other places around our house. The fog has settled on Frederick now for several days... time for it to move on I say. I see you are on to your next travels... hopefully in search of even warmer temps and more sunshine. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Sherry - it looked like a good one! Now, who ate the other half of your Birthday Cake??
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see you're catching up date-wise with the rest of blogland - just a few more days to go - you've got to get even with us before the year ends or we'll all be totally confused. At least I will.
Happy belated birthday. I'm sorry the weather hasn't been better for you. We've had some fog here too (along with a bunch of rain).
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been down to Collier Seminole state park? I think you'd like it. Unfortunately, we've had too much rain to do much exploring, but there are some nice trails and even a kayak trail.
Happy Birthday Sherry. Remember a foggy day a the beach is still better than a sunny day in the office :).
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Aunt Sherry! Love those heels AND glad you didn't buy them! The herbs are a great birthday present - great choice! I had Norah helping me tend ours over the summer this year. Great to see her enjoying the greenery! I definitely love the icicle lights on Winona....hung ours up this weekend for the first time as well. Lights - check. Christmas tree - check. Ready for christmas! Hoping the fog has lifted since the pictures above. Love you both!
ReplyDeleteMother Nature doesn't always cooperate with our birthday plans. I had hoped for sunrise for a miletone birthday a few years ago ... got rain and fog rolling in and out most of the morning. Are birthday wishes belated if you don't know there was a birthday to celebrate? They're sincere either way.
ReplyDeleteWe have had basil on our dash since May and it provides tons for us. Then we bought a winter tomato plant and it has and is giving us delish grape tomatoes! When we hit southern CA, will be looking for more.
ReplyDeleteOops, I'm sorry, I forgot one thing! Happy birthday....a bit late!
