The Bad, The Good and The Irritating–I Could Use Your Help

Sunday February 19, 2017

David had arranged to fly to New York yesterday for his Mother’s sister’s 90th birthday.  All his living siblings will be there.  He had the plane reservation and hotel set up and was very much looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating the occasion.  But……….

The first signs of a cold showed up on Tuesday. Over the week, it turned into a cough and then a fever and then fatigue and it all just got worse and worse.  He was in bed all day Friday and all day yesterday.   His temperature would be high, 102.3, and then tylenol would bring it down.  Early last evening it hit 103 and at that point it was time for the experts.  Rather than take him to another regional hospital where they seldom know what to do with a Multiple Myeloma Patient, and I have to be his constant advocate and totally vigilant, I drove him 2 hours south to Tampa.  He was admitted to Moffitt Cancer Center where they know all about him and his illness.   This morning they have diagnosed him with pneumonia but the tests for a secondary infection which they suspect won’t be back for another 24-48 hours.   He just doesn’t have an immune system that can fight off anything that persists.   So instead of celebrating with his family he is in a hospital bed.

On a happier note, today also our granddaughter Celia is 9 months old.  How fast time flies.  I wish we could celebrate with them.   I hadn’t realized that Celia and David’s Aunt share a birthdate.  I’m surprised he didn’t point that out when he first planned his trip.

On an irritating note.  Yesterday I tried to post the second part to Animal Kingdom but got a 501 error which I’m still getting.  So no post.  Some people are having it, others with the same situation are not.  It has to do with the pictures and where they are coming from some say.  But just when one person says this is when it happens another says but I do it the same way and everything is fine.  Who knows how long it will take to get that up and how much further behind I will get due to the hospitalization and the error.  I seriously could have been caught up to the present had thought by early next week.   But now, who knows.   I know it doesn’t matter but it makes it easier for me to remember if things aren’t too far in the past and I need something else to do other than worry and try to figure out what I’m going to do now.

If anyone having this 501 problem has found a fix, please let me know.  This post is pictureless so that Google and Microsoft will play well together and publish it.

Our reservation here at Rainbow Springs is up on Tuesday and I will have to move Winnona without any help.  Our next reservation is 150 miles north of here and thus even further from Moffitt so I must find something closer to Tampa.  If you have any suggestions for that or can provide any help in any way please let me know.

It’s been a rough few days and the immediate future is extremely unclear.

  1. I feel so bad for David having to miss the occasion of a milestone birthday, but I feel worse for him having pneumonia. It's good you went to Tampa and a place where they are familiar with and equipped to handle David's problems. GET WELL, DAVID!

  2. So sorry, Sherry, not a time to be having irritating issues cropping up for sure. Wishing David well. Glad that you have Moffitt accessible, too. Just an aside. Several bloggers have been publishing with fewer photos either due to this particular issue, or for traveling reasons. Whatever the reason, I have noticed with bloggers that I care about, which are the only ones I read much any more, photos are nice, are fun, but it is the words of the person, the communications that actually matter to me, so a blog with no photos and words is better than a blog with lots of pictures and no words. So keep writing, save the pictures for later, you can always catch up with them. It is the words of the people we care about that matter. Hugs to you both.

  3. Oh, I am so sorry, Sherry. Ugh. This stinks.

  4. Hope you are feeling better David. I agree with Sue Malone, I like the words almost better than the pictures.

  5. Sherry, the Escapee Park, Sumter Oaks in Bushnell, has openings. If you are not an Escapee member, you can still stay there. Their phone number is: 352-793-1333 or 352-793-5216. They are located just off of I-75 at Exit 309. Their address is 4602 CR 673, Bushnell, FL 33513.

You can become an Escapee member for $39.95/year and save $6.50/night or $67.50/week.

    Their website is: https://escapees.com/support/parking/rainbow-parks/bushnell-florida

If Dave is at the Moffitt Center on Magnolia Drive in Tampa, this park is 45 miles north of the Center. The hospital is located about 6 miles off I-75.

  12. So sorry that David is in the hospital and unable to celebrate with his family! I can't offer any help with the Blogger problem; I haven't run into that one yet. We've stayed at Spanish Main, which is right off 75, just north of I-4. Not sure of availability, but it's a decent park in a convenient location. Some friends of ours just stayed there in January/early Feb, and paid the Passport rate.

  13. Yikes sounds like no fun for anyone... we are not having any issues with word press and blogger doing our photos but I edit them in photoshop and simply copy and paste into our word press blog...

  14. Thank you all for being out there and commenting. It's nice not to feel alone. Thanks for the parks suggestions. Margary I hadn't thought of Bushnell since we are Escapee members and have never been there. I know the community would be so supportive and at this point I can really use it. Feeling pretty alone. If my line on one at spot at Lithia Springs falls through for some reason this will be my second choice. Joyce, so good to see you here. I tried to contact you back. Your comment came through fine. You can always reach me through the subscription address on the right just put something else in the subject line.

  16. I am so sorry to hear this about David. We will definitely keep him and you in our prayers.
Margery sounds like she has a good option. I certainly hope you can find a site and get moved with no problems.
    Take care!

  18. Of course we feel challenged being so far away. Certainly understand your fear and frustration. We all missed David so much...but I know he missed the event even more. Please stay in close touch. I hope you can feel the love we are all sending to both.

  19. Sherry, so sorry to hear about Dave's Heath problems. Hope you can find a close location. We were just across the street Friday at the VA ER. Ken has an infection too. I'm only about 40 minutes away if you need anything. Maybe want to talk or go to lunch. Prayers for Dave.

  21. Wishing David well and for you to find a solution for parking the rig. Would it be possible to park at the hospital?

  22. Oh my!! So sorry to hear that David is in the hospital and you don't have much support to move. I hope that the issue with blogger gets fixed, it can be irritating for sure.

  23. Sherry, This is indeed unhappy news. We hope he gets better soon with the help of the hospital staff who know him. The Escapees park sounds like a great option for you. I hope everything works out well for you both. Hang in there. I can only imagine how hard this is for you. Hugs to you and David.

  24. Prayers for David and for you....There are 18 RV parks in Zephyr Hills, which would be closer than Bushnell...just a thought...

  25. Darn, wish we were closer to help you, we're in Key West. I hope that some of the other RVer's in your campground will help you hook up and get Winnona to her next campground. Not familiar with other campgrounds in the FL area you need to be, keeping fingers crossed that the right one will come available.

Hope David is able to get out of the hospital soon, he's been through so much, but he is a fighter, as are you.

  26. Hope things are going better today. I'm sure David was disappointed that he was unable to make the trip to NY.
One reason we have been hesitant to get a bigger RV is that I want to be able to drive and take care of everything myself, as happened in 2011 when Jim had emergency gallbladder surgery. Not sure I would be comfortable with anything bigger than our 30'. Hope you have found some help. Thinking of you both.

  27. So sorry to hear about David, hope he recovers quickly. My first thought for a campground would be Lazydays. If they are not having a rally there, I would think you might be able to get in there. Some 40 miles or so away is a place that some friends stay called Sun and Fun in Sarasota. It is a very big place and may have a spot. Our limited expeince with south FL in the winter is it is tough to find a spot on short notice:(

  28. I only "know" you through your blog yet I am so sorry to read that David is in the hospital. I cannot even imagine how stressful this must be for you both. Take care of yourself and stay safe.

  29. Sorry to hear that David is in the hospital. You made the right choice to take him to the cancer center. I hope you found an RV site closer to him. LazyDays RV dealer in Seffner has an RV park next to the dealership. Of course, it's not like staying in a state park, but I was very happy with everyone when I was there in 2011.

  30. Wow, that is a lot of comments. So nice to see how your readers have responded!

  31. I hope by now your moving issues have been resolved, and your focus can be on David's recovery and your own peace of mind. I've been away from the blog for a bit so am just catching up. I have little to offer other than to hold you both in the light, and to send lots of virtual hugs. Health is always the biggest challenge on this adventure, and I know that getting David where they know what to do for him was a blessing. I'm confident all the rest will/is come(ing) together for you.

  32. I'm so sorry you guys are going through this challenge. After talking yesterday, I'm relieved to know that it worked out for you to stay on at Rainbow Springs and that you didn't have to move immediately. You made a good decision to take David where he can get the best care. You have a lot on your shoulders right now. Take good care, both of you. We're thinking of you and sending hugs.

  33. I'm going to assume David is feeling better as I see his comment above and glad you found a safe haven. I believe you have a strong support group both virtually and in real time. Sending positive energy your way. Can't help with the blog thing. Hugs!!!

  34. Hey David, just read this today. Hope you are doing better. Tough for you too Sherry. I hope everything is improving. Now I hope Sherry gets better too!

  35. So sorry to hear about David's illness and hospitalization. Hard on both of you. There's a nice RV park in Dunedin, right outside of Tampa. We stayed there last November for a meeting and family gathering. You can see my review second one down, November 2016. The location is convenient to grocery stores, restaurants, and a few miles from the big blue sea for soothing and calming. Hope things improve and you'll soon be together again. Take care.

  36. P.S. the little Blue Moon Inn on the same property is very nice, neat and clean, and has a complimentary breakfast as well as kitchenette in the room. Very quiet. Just in case you want to leave the RV behind and stay in a hotel for a few days.

  37. I'm sorry to hear about David. I hope by now things are better and he's back home with you. I'm sure you've found a rv park by now, but there are a lot of Rv parks in Zephyrhills for future reference. They are certainly not the kinds of places you like, but there are a lot of them and they might have openings when others don't. Quail Run is pretty full. I can't help you with the 501 error. I haven't posted a blog lately so I haven't had any issues.
