Schoodic Woods Campground Closing Out Our Time at Schoodic
Acadia National Park Pirates and Mustard
Winter Harbor, Maine
Monday September 4
On our last day at Schoodic of course we return to the point which gives us just a fantastic send off. On the drive down to the point we stop along the way for a picture of Cadillac Mountain on MDI across the water and under the blue sky and white clouds.
We zoom for a last view of Egg Rock Lighhouse there in the waters between Schoodic and Cadillac.
When we arrive at the point it’s so exciting. Just like the first day we arrived, the waves are crashing. Really spectacular book-ends to our stay at Schoodic Woods. We spend as long as we can here just laughing and taking pictures. 411 pictures between the two of us which has taken me hours to cut down to those you see here.
The wind is out, I’ve got on sweats but a front row seat for the show.
Can you see all the gulls both in the air and on the far rocks?
We found ourselves saying BOOM each time they crashed into the rocks.
Even if you weren’t this close, you’d get the spray flung at you and raining down.
He’s not as close as he looks but you can see more clearly just how high the waves are.
The water barely has time to cascade off of the rocks before the big waves hit them again.
With some waves, the rocks completely disappear under the water.
What a spectacular day in one of nature’s finest places!
Goodbye Schoodic, it’s been a wonderful visit and a picture postcard send off.
We’ll be back!
Tuesday September 5
This morning we pull out of Schoodic Woods and head back to Seawall Campground on the quiet side of MDI. Although after being in Schoodic, this will never feel like real quiet again unless it’s in November or something. We’re only in Seawall for two nights so that David can keep his clinic appointment tomorrow. We’ll be on down the road headed South on Thursday.
We have the same site as originally, site #30 and it takes all of our hoss pads to get Winnona Level. We have a dozen pads and use one as a ramp for our rear tires to back up to the other 5 on each side.
It’s pizza for dinner. YUM!
Tomorrow is clinic and pack up day.
Wednesday September 6
On his way home from the clinic David stops by Travelin’ Lobster and brings back our last lobster roll of the summer.
We’re moving out of Acadia tomorrow after a stay of three months in 3 campgrounds.
One final taste of lobster is a fitting way to say good bye. .
Not sure how I’ll get along without lobster
What a marvelous summer we’ve had!!
One of my favorite things to do is be at the Pacific Ocean during stormy weather. The waves on the rocks make for spectacular pictures.
ReplyDeleteYou did have a great summer at Acadia.
ReplyDeleteThat pizza looks yummy!
I could hear the waves on the rocks - spectacular! You got some really great pics of the spray. Love the seagulls flying over the waves. I'm so glad our jacks are able to get us level, those pads look like a lot of work. Three months of lobster sounds like a pretty great summer :-))))
ReplyDeleteOur jacks got us level but our wheels would be off the ground. Thus we put the pads under the wheels so they aren't hanging in the air.
DeleteSo much to enjoy in and around Acadia NP. I hope we can do it again. I too will miss the lobster.
ReplyDeleteA great end to the summer:)
ReplyDeleteThat wave action is incredible.
ReplyDeleteThe crashing waves at Schoodic Point were there to say "Goodbye!!!"...how thoughtful;o)) That point is one of the most amazing places when the waves are crashing and your day was amazing!!! Seems like ages ago, doesn't it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe crashing waves are spectacular. What fun for your last big adventure! I still find myself forgetting that it is still summer in your posts.
ReplyDeleteWow, that really was a spectacular send off!! A fitting end for a spectacular summer. I want to go there. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat spectacular waves!! Boom! I can just imagine. Yummy pizza and good call on the one last lobster pick-up! What a grand summer indeed :)
