Railside RV Ranch
Williams, AZ
We pulled out of the OK RV Park in Holbrook which
really was OK. Nothing special about the place
but the folks there were very nice.
Good place to stay for seeing the Petrified Forest or
you can take your chances with the Gift shop at the
south end of the Park Drive outside the park on Route 180.
They definitely have FREE RV sites with electricity which
I assume worked but I was not brave enough to do it.
If you do, let me know.
It would be a pretty big savings for 2 nights.
On the drive to Williams, Arizona
we encountered some new things.
Mountains with altitude
and a brand new warning
126 miles later we were in Williams for one
night before going into the Grand Canyon for a week.|
Williams is the home of the Grand Canyon Railway.
Here’s the old train.
And the current train.
You can take the train from here for a day,
arrive at the Grand Canyon at 11:30
and start back at 3:30.
Take a look at the car and price selection
Very interesting
We are staying at the Railside RV Ranch.
Here’s our site.
And Duckie’s View.
It is definitely railside.
Both passenger & freight trains blew their
whistles before coming down the tracks.
So we were ready with the camera.
This was taken from the rig.
We actually had a typical “down day” in Williams..
As usual, I worked on the blog.
As usual, David took pictures of Route 66.
Mostly eateries.
And a museum with a 1950 Ford
just like the one he used to own
except for the color.
He found the price of gas to be……well
He did discover a vintage Dairy Queen.
Isn’t it just darling???
So he came back and to get me.
Of course it was VERY difficult
to pull me away to go have
a Blizzard.
Williams is a cute little tourist town
where at 7pm every single day of the year
at different intersections in town,
The famous Cataract Creek Gang has
a gun fight and a grizzled cowpoke gets shot.
We didn’t know about this until the next morning
or we would have gone over for the fun.
Be sure to ask for the location on the day
you are in Williams.
I was really sorry to have missed it.
We had no problem with the trains
waking us up over night. Either they don’t run
at night, or we were too tired to hear them.
Grand Canyon tomorrow!!
We'll have to put Williams, AZ on our TODOS list. Missed that last time;o))
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for you two to get to the GRAND CANYON!!!
Have fun:o))))
Oooh, oooh! Grand Canyon. My favorite spot in the US. Definitely on our list of places to stay for awhile.
ReplyDeleteWe did the railway and got upgraded to the fancy observation car. It was lots of fun and good snacks up and back. On the way back the train was held up and we was robbed.
ReplyDeleteSome old west traditions never die.
Have fun at the canyon, don't over do it on the trails!
Williams sounds like a fun town. Can't wait for your pics of the Grand Canyon!
